When I plug it up, a popup says The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. *I have tried USB ports on opposite side of the laptop. *I have uninstalled the USB device in Device Manager, and forced it to look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin for USB Drivers. *I have powered up the laptop with the watch plugged in.
*I have plugged in the watch with it powered off.

*I have installed and uninstalled Garmin Express over and over with PC reboots in between each step. *I have power cycled both the PC and the watch repeatedly. Windows 10 PC with Garmin Express installed will not recognize brand new, just opened Fenix 5 Plus Sapphire watch. Apparently I received a defective cable with the watch, and with the spare one I ordered. The watch connected immediately and continues to work great. I was in the living room and too lazy to go get one of the Garmin cables, so opened a package with a generic cable that came free with a screen protector. I had tried switching USB cables between two Garmin cables, and had nearly given up, when I decided to charge it one last time before returning for a refund. Worked with tech support for hours through multiple scenarios, also no luck. Thought I would share the solution in case it might help someone else with a similar problem.
